Magnolia seed pod -- blown down by the recent winds, from the tree in the front yard. Inspired by Laura, although I could never do as well as she does! The details of the thing are driving me crazy. ANY ideas to "fix it up" would be very welcome!
I haven't seen Laura's work yet, but judging by your comment, she must be amazing ....since I think this entry is beautiful just the way it is. I rarely feel completely satisfied with my work. One of the biggest challenges for me is to recognize when the piece is DONE...and to stop "finessing". That's the beauty of feedback from fresh eyes. Thanks for commenting on my work.
Well, thank you all! I guess I just thought the seed pod needed more detail, and was feeling frustrated that I couldn't seem to get it without the whole thing getting all "line-y" (if you know what I mean.) You all are a great inspiration and help! I'll leave it be! :-)
This is very nice. The only thing I can think of to improve this is cropping off the black line from your scanner on the right hand side (but that doesn't have anything to do with the painting). I think I know what you are talking about by "line-y," but I'm not totally sure. Try using a bigger brush so you don't have to use as many strokes. Also, don't let the paint sit on the paper without blending it in or you will get little splotches. But I find that with watercolor I am usually better off leaving it alone because I mess it up more when I keep fiddling around with it.

This is a wonderful sketch. And I actually don't see anything that needs to be fixed. The leafs looks very good.

This is perfect just the way it is! The colors are so rich and vibrant and the variation just wonderful.
