Magnolia Bud and Branch

Posted by Picasa The magnolias are budding and will soon be in full bloom. When we bought our house years ago, one of the first things I did was cut a magnolia bloom from the tree in the front yard.
Posted by Picasa Bud losing its outer covering while the first petal opens outward.

These are so pretty. I'm glad you didn't color them.

They do look good and there is so much fine detail. I am still trying to practice. On the one hand, I find I get impatient with having to bother with details. On the other hand, I enjoy playing around with shading and seeing what happens.

wonderful as usual. Do I get these for my birthday since I'm having to wait on the Moleskin? I hope you have lots of flowers in bloom in June and you can give me some lessons.

Beautiful hatching. Such patience! And a great eye for those seductive shapes found in magnolia flowers. Wonderful!

wow Linda this is so beautiful, it looks like you had a lovely quiet time slowly observing and drawing, makes me relax, slow, take a breath to look on it, ahhhhh. . . better.

Your hatching is so wonderful on this. It seems insane to try to represent something as smooth and delicate as a magnolia with crisscrossing black lines but this proves how beautifully it can be done. I also love your chipmunk and bluebird (birds that we do not have here in the UK despite the song 'There'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover')

Absolutely gorgeous Linda! Your shape and shading are perfect! Are you going to do one in color also??

Glorious, glorious---the bottom one is particularly stupendous with exciting composition and just to die for lines.

Hello Linda,
And we all think we have invented the wheel! I was keeping sketchbooks and scrapbooks for years and thought I was the only one!
Peceli and I have two blogs - one babasiga is about Fiji, and the new one - two weeks old - is about Geelong (Australia) where we live. We include little drawings from our picnics, etc.
