Venice

I finally finished the Queen Anne's Lace painting (my WC teacher has it to photograph, so I can't post the end result yet) and I just couldn't deal with any more green. BADLY needing some color, and having some photos with me from Bonny's trip to Italy, I decided to "visit Venice." The whole painting was done really quickly, without any preliminary drawing, using a 1" flat wash brush for all but the final details, which I did with a #16 round. Despite the mudpuddle in the middle, I love making this particular type of mess. Maybe I'll do it again with some proper perspective drawing and better detail. Meanwhile, I had a really good time just splashing around!

(Actually, now that I see it on the monitor, I think I may need to do some tweaking. It isn't for framing, though -- just for fun, so I may leave it alone. Who knows! Who cares! :-)

I've been otherwise quite busy lately, but am nearly caught up and back to normal. We have a vacation in the works, which may mean for some interesting drawing / photography opportunities. We'll see!

I've been wondering where you were! I love looking at your watercolor paintings.

I bought myself some oil pastels to piddle around with in my journal, and I do mean "piddle" as I am not as talented as you are!

I love your jewel-like colors and the sort of stained glass effect you got with that flat brush! I hope people will click on the post image for an enlarged view--it's really smashing!

Great warm/cool variation, Linda! It really works.

I am honoured that you chose one of my photos to work from. This painting is so beautiful!
It sparkles with vitality. The colours re perfect, too.
And that so called 'muddy mess'??? It adds to the charm of the painting. Besides, it makes the whole thing more true to life. Not everything in Venice is spanking bright, beautiful and new. There are many areas that have seen better times and show the truer, seamier side of life and aging.
To me, it adds true character to your pinting. I love the whole peice, just the way it is.

This is lovely and very different. I think you're a closet perfectionist. This is perfectly fine the way it is. Especially the colors, I really like the colors.

I love this little painting of Venice. I believe it's Burano, a place I thought was charming when I was there last October. I also hope to do some paintings from my photos and would be happy if they are half as good as yours. My first time on your blog - but I shall put it in my favorites and check in often. Ellen
