Creeks and Such

I've been working the past few weeks on a full sheet watercolor of a mountain creek. It has turned out to be an ambitious project, and I've been at several "Oh S..." points on the painting, if you know what I mean! Tonight I was thinking of how I miss all my "blogland" friends and thought of this simple little WC sketch I did nearly two years ago -- much smaller than what I'm working on now, but still...

IF this monster turns out okay I'll share it with you guys.
IF you NEVER see it, well, you'll know that I've carried it down to the creek for a good ole Southern-style baptism ... 'nuff said.

I miss simple sketching. There has to be a way to find time to do both! Posted by Picasa

Linda we've missed you too!
This watercolour is so serene, I can just imagine myself sitting on one of those larger rocks, being quiet and drinking in the calmness, listening to the sounds of the water. Then a bird calling out to it's mate breaks into my contemplation. The sudden silver splash of a fish jumping to catch a fly that buzzed too close to the water's surface reminds me it's time for lunch. Reluctantly I leave this magical world behind me as I slowly get drawn back into the real life awaiting me further down the path.

Linda, it's true...you've been missed! I was thinking tonight as I read blogs that I was going to leave a comment asking where in the world you have been!

I already like your creek watercolor as it is. If it ends up in the creek, well Southern style baptisms in the creek are also a thing of beauty! So either way, the picture is lovely!

Gorgeous watercolour. I think even if you are working on something big it's worth considering doing some very short sketches, just to loosen up (and to satisfy your fans!) Maybe taking far less time than you would normally take for a quickie - no more than five minutes maybe.

I agree with Julie, Linda---keeping at the quick things helps make the bigger things go more smoothly. Of course, I WOULD vote for more sketches, wouldn't I? It's because I miss seeing all your amazing, frequent sketches!

Add me to your fan club!! This is just beautiful, I love the earthy colours. And I agree, do some small, quick things - partly to keep us happy :) and partly because it will keep your energy and enthusiasm up.

If the new one is anything like this, well no baptism there. This is beautiful. It's very quiet but you can feel the life that's all around.

Can't wait to see "THE PROJECT" which could become, in it's way, rather daunting, couldn't it? Sorry, but your BIG PIcTURE is going to as wonderful as your smaller projects there IS no doubt.

It's lovely, Linda! :)
Been a while since I stopped by... so glad I did.

I'm entranced by your magnolia painting. WOW!

Hi. Your work is beautiful! I love all the wonderful colors and shapes in the rocks. And I know what you mean about how frustrating it is to have to choose sketching or painting. I've been struggling with the opposite side of the dilemna. I've been doing daily sketches and watercolors and posting to my blog but have had no time left for doing big paintings, which is all I used to do. There's got to be a way to do both!

I hope the painting works out for you, because I'm curious. Even if you don't get it on the first try, I think a failed effort could be useful if you use it to rework the painting.
