EDM Wings

A quick little study for a watercolor painting I'm considering. Fits right in with the Everyday Matters Challenge this week for "draw something with wings." All this painting and less drawing is beginning to take it's toll -- I had a tough time sketching a portrait (also as a study for the painting) because my drawing skills have gotten so rusty. Which clinches it for me -- it's important to draw SOMETHING everyday!

(technical stuff: Graphite & Cretacolor AquaMonoliths on Fabriano Studio paper with a litle water added)

Hi Linda,
Thanks for dropping by. I like your gull, it's a good angle to draw him from and I like the shadows and the liveliness of the drawing.
That's a nice watercolour of strawberries further down as well - nice loose style and gorgeous colour.

Linda,

In spite of not having drawn for some time your skills seem to be pretty good!Okay, maybe you can do better, but there is nothing wrong with this fellow. I really like the sketchy lines.

I love the 'sketchiness' of this one - I'll be interested to see if you can work it into something that is as lively and has the strong feel of being there that this one has

Beautiful. Light and easy, very adequate for a bird :)

Beautiful sketch. And your painting of the beach is wonderful too! Looks like a fun place to go and visit when you see your daughter.

Lovely, like everything else in here. You always render so well, it seems natural that your attention to line and value would leap over to watercolor. Great paintings. Thanks for the visit, and Nice Color yourself, dear. :-)

Hi Linda! Thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving sweet comments! Seems the gulls have it in this challenge! Yours is showing a very gull like attitude!

Very nice. For not having drawn for a while, this is superb. I guess we are all on different levels of skill -- different steps on our journey in art.

Linda: You do wonderful finished paintings, and as someone who pretty much only sketches I always wonder how those of you who do more finished work move from a sketch "study' like this to a finished painting. Do you use additional source material? Work from your head/imagination?
I'll come back here to see if you answer, or you could email me directly at karen.sandstrom@yahoo.com.
Thanks! (This sketch itself is lovely.)

Wonderful drawing with so much energy. He looks like a very perky bird.

I would leave this as a sketch. It has wonderful energy and line work.
